DESHILADOS OF SAN FELIPE DE LOS HERREROS, MICHOACAN

This fine art form is a meticulous task that involves removing the weft-threads from cotton to create a pattern that resembles graph paper, with a series of holes. Once the cloth is prepared, the artist begins to embroider the fabric to create designs over the open holes, creating a lace-like texture.  The blouse shown in the gallery below is mirrored on the back, and took the artist over 9 months to complete. These are museum quality textiles, and the artists sell a plethora of pieces that range in price, depending on how much of the garment features deshilado technique.
