THIS IS WHAT WE CALL THE MAYA RENAISSANCE
There has been an explosion of evolution within the artistic Maya community, rendering all sorts of modern styles for the fashion market. This includes leather boots and shoes with woven and embroidered panels, high-end leather handbags with woven panels, and items like this stunning wool coat.
This dress is a response to modern fashion, and is not something a traditional Maya woman would have worn even 20 years ago.
TYPICAL STYLE: We know this dress was made in Zinacantan, but we still have yet to determine a reliable source as to whether they are only made in Zinacantan, or whether they are made in many places. These patterns are universally seen in markets across Mexico, making it difficult to know how many other places they are made. If you happen to be an expert on this, PLEASE EMAIL US! We really want to document our pieces as carefully as possible!
MEASUREMENTS
The arm holes are generous on this piece, but if you want them larger, this would be very easy to adjust, as the side-seams are hand stitched.
Chest Measurement: 41" (21.5" Across)
Underarm to Shin: 28 "
Shoulder to Shin: 37"
ALL PIECES ARE SHIPPED AS FOUNDWe do not adjust the pieces, nor do we pr-wash them.
HOW TO CARE FOR THIS DRESS
To extend the life of this piece, we recommend hand washing IT. Soak in cold soapy water, rinse gently without wringing, and then lay flat on a rack or towel to dry. Never leave these pieces in direct sunlight. If you are hanging them on an outdoor line, dry them inside-out to avoid sun damange.
WE HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR WOVEN TREASURE AND WILL PASS IT DOWN THROUGH THE ART LOVERS IN YOUR FAMILY.
