NOVEMBER 1, 2024

In Tzintzuntzan, the tradition is to bring the altars to the cemetery during the day on November 1, in preparation for the night vigils.  There is incredible music, the smell of copal incense, and elaborate altars danced through the streets by the families of loved ones who are being honoured.  This is an overwhelming day for anyone who has recently lost a loved one, and the crowds can be quite intense during this experience.  For that reason, we are so grateful that Las Yacatas Restaurant is kind enough to offer us some respite with our annual reservation in their tranquil restaurant!  Guests can unwind and enjoy a cold beer or mineral water, and feast on a traditional and delicious meal.

We only spend about 3.5 hours in the town because our Noche de Muertos tour runs from 6 PM - 4:30 AM, making this a long and exhausting day.  That said, as few guests ever sleep before our night tour, and often say they wish they could have spent more time in the town, please let us know if you would like to spend more time here.  We can arrange for a taxi to pick you up around 5:00 PM and bring you to our meeting spot for our night tour, if you prefer to just stay out for this experience.  Contact us directly for more information.
