DON VASCO
La Ruta Don Vasco traverses a region of Patzcuaro known for a series of Pueblo Hospitals, which were established by the first Bishop of Michoacan in the mid-1500's. Don Vasco Quiroga, or Tata (Papa) employed economic concepts out of Thomas Moore's Utopia to create a trade network between local villages, most of which remains intact to this day. Come explore this fascinating history that exposes colonial powers and celebrates the indigenous cultural roots that have continued to thrive here.
There are so many ways to go about this route, and we have been traversing it for more than 8 years. Let us share our expertise and passion with you - you may just fall in love and move here too!
